Ruud takes no-hitter to ninth as Dukes top Hastings 3-0
AUGUST 16, 2010 - Dundas, Minn. - Charlie Ruud took a no-hitter to the ninth inning on the way to a 13-strike out, one-hit shutout as Dundas defeated Hastings 3-0 on Monday night to take the section title and top seed to the state tournament, which begins this weekend.

Ruud allowed no walks and just two baserunners -- Jordy Horsch on an error in the sixth and Sean Dube's leadoff single in the ninth -- as he coasted to his second straight shutout win. His eight no-hit innings made 13 1/3 straight for Dundas pitchers after Todd Mathison closed the team's state-clinching victory with 5 1/3 no-hit innings against Red Wing on Friday.

Dundas picked up two runs in the third on Tyler Jones' two-out single and another in the fifth on Jones' sacrifice fly.

The Dukes (38-11) had only four hits as Hastings starter David Vogelgesang went the distance, striking out six and walking three in the loss.

With the win, Dundas clinched the top seed from Section 1B into this weekend's first round of the Class B State Tournament. The Dukes will play the second seed from Section 6, Bemidji, at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Hastings will play Blaine at 1:30 p.m.

Dundas drafted two Miesville pitchers -- Chris Olean and Luke Rassmussen -- and catcher Jimmy Bohmbach of Red Wing.

Hastings picked three pitchers: Righty Erik Olson of Miesville and Red Wing's Aaron Johnson and Augie Lindmark.
