Dukes reach state tournament with 6-2 win over Aces
AUGUST 13, 2010 - DUNDAS, Minn. - Todd Mathison worked 5 1/3 innings of no-hit releif as Dundas defeated Red Wing 6-2 on Friday night to clinch a berth in the Minnesota Class B State Tournament.
The Dukes (37-11) scored all of their six of runs in the first inning on seven hits. Josh Maus and Pat Wadzinski each had two-out hits that plated the team's final four runs in the inning.
Tyler Jones went 2-for-3 and Mike Ludwig 2-for-4 for Dundas in the win.
Mathison struck out nine and walked none. He allowed only one baserunner -- Corey Tauer who reached on an error in the sixth -- and then erased him on the next pitch when Adam Thygesen grounded into a double play.
Dundas starter Drew Johnson held Red Wing scoreless for the first three innings before Brett Gadient homered in the fourth.
The Dukes, who will await the winner of the Hastings-Miesville series for the Section 1B seed game, is now 9-1 following a loss.
